The Oklahoma health insurance marketplace for 2027: plans, insurers and SoonerCare.

The short answer

Oklahoma becomes a state-based marketplace on the federal platform for 2027, but Oklahomans still apply on HealthCare.gov, from November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Oklahoma County had 7 insurers and 101 plans in 2026, and unlike Texas, most were PPOs. Adults earning up to 138% of the poverty level usually qualify for SoonerCare instead.

What changes in Oklahoma for 2027.

CMS lists Oklahoma as a state-based marketplace using the federal platform (SBM-FP) for plan year 2027. For you, very little changes: you still shop and enroll on HealthCare.gov, the premium tax credit works the same way, and licensed agents still help at no cost. The state takes on more of the oversight behind the scenes.

SoonerCare or a Marketplace plan?

Oklahoma expanded Medicaid in 2021. Adults 19 to 64 with household income up to 138% of the poverty level generally qualify for SoonerCare, which usually costs far less than a Marketplace plan. People who qualify for SoonerCare cannot get a premium tax credit. Above 138%, a Marketplace plan with a credit is the usual route.

Starting January 1, 2027, federal law adds work or community engagement requirements for many expansion adults. American Indians and others eligible for Indian Health Service care are exempt.
